Mommy and Me

My daughter and I do everything together. I love spending my days with her and she loves spending them with me. We have so much fun together! Because she is an only child, I recognize the importance of giving her plenty of opportunities to get socialization and be around other children. While play dates, trips the mall, and visits with family and friends serve us well, perhaps my favorite form of socialization are our Mommy&Me classes. She gets time with other children, and I get to meet other moms!

We have tried Kindermusik classes and thoroughly enjoy the upbeat kid-focused songs, playing with musical instruments, and dancing ourselves silly. We have also enjoyed the occasional trip to our local  Rolly Pollies gym. The variety of child friendly gymnastics equipment and trained staff members make this a family favorite.

By far my favorite Mommy&Me activity are the swim classes we do through Kids First Swim School. After doing the baby swim class a couple of times, my seventeen month old daughter already kicks as she moves through the water, holds her breath surprisingly well, shows an immense amount of confidence in and around the water, and grabs onto the side of the pool to pull herself out. I absolutely love the mommy workout class we do together. This class incorporates high intensity cardio and water aerobics while using your child for weight and resistance.

I understand the importance of fitness in not only our child's life, but in our own lives a well. Because I am not comfortable leaving my child in the care of a sitter or a gym provided childcare environment I sought out ways to provide my daughter and I with fitness opportunities that we could do together. This has not only had a positive impact in my health and body image, but has also offered my daughter a fun and safe way to get into fitness and an active lifestyle from a very young age.

By doing Mommy&Me classes we are further strengthening the bond that we have as parent and child. Nothing is more important to me than time spent with my family. Classes like these are the perfect opportunity to get some me-time while not sacrificing time with those I love!

Do you have a favorite Mommy&Me activity?

  1. Did you watch the Women's Gymnastics portion of the 2012 Summer Olympics? The Olympic Gold medalist Aly Raisman started gymnastics at age 2 in her Mommy & Me classes. I think it really shows that mother daughter activity bonding time at an early age can have a really positive effect on the child's future. I love the close relationship I had with my mom when I was little. It's because of her and our "reading time" why I love reading books so much today. I thank her for it all the time. :)
